The Impact of Sports Fanaticism on the Performance of Professional Soccer Players in Northern Jordan

This study aimed to determine the impact of sports fanaticism on the performance of professional football players in northern Jordan, as well as the influence of club affiliation, years of experience, and educational level on this impact. A descriptive methodology was adopted as it was best suited to the nature and objectives of the study. The study sample consisted of 85 players registered for the 2024-2025 season. A questionnaire was designed to measure the impact of sports fanaticism on the performance of professional football players in northern Jordan, encompassing four dimensions: psychological, social, organizational, and performance-related. The SPSS statistical software was used to calculate the appropriate statistical methods for answering the research questions.
The results of the study showed that the impact of sports fanaticism on the performance of professional football players was moderate. The results also showed no statistically significant differences in the impact of sports fanaticism on football players' performance according to the study variables (club affiliation and educational level). However, statistically significant differences were found among more experienced players according to the variable of years of experience. In light of the study's findings, the researcher recommends focusing on the psychological preparation of less experienced players to help them cope with the pressures of fans associated with manifestations of sports fanaticism.
